Commerce Energy? Anybody heard about it?

  I was lying on the sofa  working on my last essay of the semester. It’s 5 pm somebody knocked the door, no doubt it’s a salesman. They asked me to sign up their program, which will give me discount on my energy bills for the next 5 years. Actually this is the second energy company had come to our house and asked me to sign up their program. The only energy company I know it’s a PG&E, I don’t know any of these new energy companies.

            So, does anybody know about  this company? Or signed up for their program? If you did, please make me a comment and tell me more about it. ThanksJJ

Strategies for the final essay.

            For the last paper of the semester, we need to build an argument about education. The topic is very comprehensive, and we also need to integrate the book Into the Wild. And the blogs that we been doing is well connected with the topic; the hardest part is how to combined those in one paper. I started reading over and over my own posts and highlight some of the information that I think it’s useful for my paper. And put down the main idea of each post and see how I can put them in order and flow smoothly. Then I start my skeleton of the essay, and extend each idea by putting more quotes and commentaries. Next I will add in my introduction and conclusion for the paper.

Brightness of the Laser

     After watching the video Focusing The Laser that was made by Chabot students, I am very proud that I have came to Chabot to study. We have very responsible instructors, friendly staff and a strong student body, we cares about our school, our community and our world. We learned to care, to speak out and fight for our passions. We may come to Chabot for many different reasons, just like the six categories that the video has described: the visitors, the wanderers, the explorers, the seekers, the dreamers and the lasers. I categorize myself as a laser, because I  have a good idea about what I want to do, I have quite a good sense of the culture of the college, and a lot of momentum on my particular pathway.

            I came alone to the U.S when I was 15 years old, I went to high school for 2 years then I took my GED. I got my high school diploma right after I finished my Sophomore year in High school. Many of my high school friends didn't support my move to leave school early, but I just couldn’t wait to accomplish my adulthood by going to college. I am majoring in Business, I really like it and I think my major is interesting and very useful. I wish I could transfer out as soon as possible, so I had a meeting with my counselor and made an education plan when school started. I took all my major classes in the first years, and worked as hard as I could to get good grades on each subject. I think it's very important to know what your goal is, so you won't waste your time in school.  I always keep my eyes on Assist.org to make sure I was on the right track, keeping in touch with the friends who have transferred to UC with Business major and following my education plan to register for new classes. 
           I will be really busy next semester because I need start applying to the school to transfer out, and boost up my GPA, schedule an appointment with my counselor and make sure I have all my required  classes done with good enough grade to transfer out to my dream university.

Success is......

           

       We dream, we talk and we picture success many times in our lives, even though, we define the meaning of success differently. Our society also set up a standard rule for success, as they defined success in a dictionary as “the attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like”. I think to judge a person’s success shouldn’t be narrow in these stubborn categories. Everybody has different goals and they can be successful by the time they achieve their goals.

The book Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer tells the true story of Christopher McCandless who is growing up in an upper middle class family, and just graduated from University. He is a successful student and a great son in people’s eyes. But he gave up all the wealth and honor and chased his goal to Alaska. Some people may thinks he is stupid or ridiculous for making this decision, in fact Chris is never regret and feel successful of what he is doing. At the same time, it also shows a point of view that mental success is also important, and being penniless doesn’t reduce the happiness of success.

 

What helps you succeed in your community? What prevents your success?

Family

      On of the biggest weapons to help me succeed in my community is my family. I couldn’t come to the States for my education without my family’s support. Their love is my source of courage; I know they will never give me up no matter how bad I am. Even though Chris didn’t get along with his parents and he refused all their gifts for love and left them without a word, his parents still looked for him and hoped he would come home. I think Chris’s knowledge was what helped him to survive penniless, and his parents  played a big role in it. Family helps a lot in our journey to seek success, and we can get unlimited love and support from our family.
        

Relationships

        Another one of the biggest weapons that helps me succeed in my community is the relationship I had. In Chris’s journey into wild, he received much help from the friends he met on the trip. He always sends letters or postcards to his friends wherever he goes. Without any money or valuable things to exchange for rides and food, Chris’s friend gave him a hand when he needed it and never ask rewards.  After we leave our families, we as individuals in the society are building our own social network. The bigger the network is, the more support we have. Nobody would succeed by themselves without anybody's help.

Money

            Money can be used as a shortcut in many ways, you can use it to buy many things and even success sometimes. It creates opportunities for people to achieve their success and gives the rich privileged an advantage over others. This unfairness makes Chris very uncomfortable, he doesn’t understand why people treat others so badly and money is one of the reasons that causes the problems in our society. I think money is like a double-edged sword; it can help people to succeed and prevent one’s success at the same time.

 

Are We Getting The Right Education?

        Jeff Bliss is a student of Duncanville High School , he was ranting on his history teacher on the way out of the classroom. He stated that teacher should go to the front and teach, and make communication with the students instead of pass out the package and sit in the corner. The video is became very popular on youtube, and Jeff get a lot of fans from speaking out for many students. In my point of view, a good teacher can change many students’ lives, and a good teacher is essential of   a student's success. I had meet a couple teachers in my high school like the history teacher in the video, I really understand how it feel to study in a super boring classroom and then  lose track and passion for school. No doubt, the students will learn better with a teacher who is willing to help and treat them seriously, and Jeff Duncan Andrade  had make a very good example for us.

            Rita Pierson’s speech “Every kids need a Champion” have the same idea with Jeff Bliss’s video. Both videos have declared that teacher is playing a very important role in education, and education is about the communication between teachers and students. 

     







   I wish, all the teachers can have the same concept like Rita Pierson, and pay more attention on the students. The students are the future of the world, they need education just like the flowers need water. If the teacher can share a little love like sun, the flowers will bloom more prettier and last longer.
