The Deal Breakers Make School So Difficult

According to National Center for Education Statistics, the total drop out rates for the whole United States in 2010 is 7.4%. The world, the society and even the school have declared that the first step of success is to be educated, people without education are known as ignorant, least ethical and a moral hazard. If people have an opportunity to go to school, why do they drop out? That is like they are giving up their chance to become successful. There are many deal breakers for people who drop out of school. The two deal breakers I think it’s very common are money, and language barriers.

Money:
Money is a very important deal breaker for a student dropout of school. Everything in the world has its price, if you don’t have enough money to just survive, how can you go to school and be educated. Many of the students in junior college are really intelligent, they are qualified and able to get into many UC schools, but because they can’t pay for their tuition, they have to go to a college to continue their education. Some people can’t even have two meals a day, a place to sleep and walk miles to school everyday. Money matters a lot to them; they will put education behind just to get money to survive. I had a friend, who has to work days and nights to help the family out, and she has hard time paying for her tuition. She is not qualified for financial aid because her father made more than $5,000 a month, but she has 6 siblings and her mother is a housewife. The whole family depends on her father’s wage. If she didn’t work, she couldn’t pay for her tuition and gas to go to school. She told me, if she got fired she would not make it to school.

Language barrier:
The second deal breaker of dropping out of school is language barrier. Many of the new immigrants or international students have is language barrier. Sitting in a classroom with 15 other English-speaking students, and they are the only ones who don’t know how to speak English really makes it difficult to catch up with the class. As a new immigrant to the country, I meet a lot of immigrants who just drop out of school because of the language barriers. They don’t understand what the teacher said in class, they are too shy to ask the classmates for help and they failed some classes just because of language barrier.

Strategies for the deal breakers:
There may have plenty different of deal breakers to drop out of school, and we all have problems everyday. It’s easy to give up, but hard to continue. If we at least to try to continue, we will be successful.
For people who have concerns about money, they can find a part time job close to their house or go to career center at school and ask for help. There are have many scholarships offered at our school. Students should not be afraid to send out applications and get rewarded for continuing with school and doing a good job in class. Language barriers are a long time fight; it is all on the individual. Spend more time on reading, talking to the professor for help and visit the English center for help.

  1. In my opinion, you are very well disclosing the subject of the deal breakers. In this essay I found some issues that I have to solve practically every day because I am also an immigrant. We [immigrants] all know that here [in the US] we come for a better life. So, in order to achieve this goal, people need to work hard. Immigrants need to understand that in a new country can be problems like work and money. However, people who have a purpose in life should be strong. And they always find the best strategies such as described in this essay.
